As per Law on Foreigners and International Protection dated 2013, foreign nationals may apply for short term Turkish residence permit for touristic purposes. Foreign nationals who either rent an apartment or buys a residential property may apply for Turkish residence permit, allowing them to freely travel in and out of Turkey for 1 year. Subject to some restrictions, at the end of the residence term, they may apply for an extension of the Turkish residence permit for another year.

Ever since the 106th Turkish Presidential Order was announced on 18 September 2018, foreign nationals may also apply for Turkish citizenship through the exceptional method of Citizenship by Investment (CBI) program.
